Mother of all Markets 05/11/2024
Market Day.... in Sarlat...everyone was waiting for Market Day. I will say this is the largest market, outside of the Portobello market in London, we have attended. The whole city turns out for the market day. I will post a number of pictures that tell the story better than I can. As this post is being written, we have returned to our apartment before going out for dinner. We have made reservations for 7:00 pm for dinner tonight.
Traveling to central France has been an education for us. We are off the beaten path where the majority of American tourists frequent. The English language is not spoken as a second language here. In fact, I cannot tell you we have come in contact with anyone that spoke English. Google Translate is our friend. Patience is key. These people are French and they speak French. If you get irritated because they don't speak English, ask yourself, how much French would you speak to a Frenchman if you met him in Alabama.
We have enjoyed our visit here. The people we have met have been very friendly and accommodating. When they see we did not speak or understand the French language, they laugh and we laugh. Laughter and smiles are a universal language.
We enjoyed Market Day. We had a list of items we were seeking. It was like a treasure hunt. A fun day.
