Wine Education Continued.... 05/07/2024

Two things I failed to mention in yesterday's blog post. In WW I, with the Germans threatening Paris, Bordeaux briefly became the capital of France. In WWII the French goverment briefly sought refuge from the Germans in Bordeaux. This was changed when France signed an armistice with Germany. Bordeaux was occupied until the 28th of August 1944 when the city was freed. Bordeaux is located on the Garonne River. The city is famous worldwide for the reputation of its wines. Many of its wines are classed among the finest (and most expensive in the world). We learned a lot about wine yesterday at the wine museum and today we were able learn the about the nuances of tasting, pairing and the proper selection of wines to recomend at social functions.

I must say the wine lessons were wasted on me, however, attending the class was an education in itself.  There was a couple in our class from Beruit.  He was the star of our class.  He knew all the answers.  We enjoyed meeting them, and it helps you realize how much alike people are.  They had the same interests we have.  They enjoyed their Bordeaux experience, the shopping, the food, and the history of the region.  Travel puts you in contact with people from all over the world.  It makes you realize how similar people are.  I am glad we attended this class.

Afterwards we split up.  Harry and Amanda went to Galleries Lafayette, they were looking for something Emily had told them about, and Linda and I took the tram to a shopping center to a certain store about 10 miles away.  Linda was looking for a certain purse for Courtney and Beth.

We met up again around 3:00 and took a a river cruise on the Garonne River.  It was a nice way to end our visit in Bordeaux.

Tonight we will pack and tomorrow we will drive to Sarlat...until then.
